2008 MRA Numbat Rally

E-mail Print PDF

Well..... it came that time of the year to set out for the "let loose" weekend of the Numbat Rally 2008. An earlybird run for all bikes (Guzzi or not) was arranged on the Friday prior for those lucky enough to get a FRIDAY OFF!! We saw two Guzzi's & a triked GL1100 Goldwing setting off from BP Armadale shortly after 0930 for a liesurely run out to the Dust Bowl at Balkuling.

Mick (on the Cali) was having all sorts of bother with towing a really poorly designed trailer & only 20km out, he wanted to burn it to the ground already. As a result, the run up there was set at about 90-95. First stop was a 5 min smoko break at the Westdale Rd turnoff, where all it was, was swearing & cursing from Mick over this F*ckin' trailer!! Onward we went to Beverley for a fuel splash in preperation for the final dash out to the Rally Site. As we set off from Beverley, it was left onto the Beverley - Mawson Rd & we were smelling the Rally air by now. Mick (leading) pulled up at the Quairiding Rd Turnoff & then it was..... "OK, where to from here"!! It was too early..... MRA hadn't been past to sign post yet. A state of confusion saw me (who was a virgin Numbatter) make an executive decision to turn right. Well.... we passed to Mawson & Mick was thinking.... "this doesn't feel, or look right", but..... instead of stopping there..... we followed Mick to 1.5km out of Quairiding before we turned around & backtracked the 33km to the Rally site. I heard about it all weekend!! Who feels like the d*ckhead now!!

Entering the rally site..... we made our way to the top of the paddock, where we just stopped, took it all in & got a welcome home wave from Norm. The three of us were the first on site & our homes away from home were set up, drinks poured, chairs set & firewood gathered by the time our hosts from the MRA arrived!! This is where we parked our backsides for nearly 4 days & what a brilliant fashion to do it in. A good, wide variety of Guzzis made their way in over the course of the weekend & was good to catch up with Bill & the lads on the T3's & 1000SP too. Something very special caught my eye on the Sunday & quietly snuck in up over the back of the hill.... twas a '75 Guzzi 750 S3, fresh purchase out of the UK with 30000 genuine Miles on the dial!! *DROOL*

Was great to see so many Guzzi's so close together all keeping each other warm....

Le Mans V, Cali 111, 850T3 x2, 1000SP, 1000SP (sidecar), Griso, V11 Sport, NTX650, & 750S3

A great weekend was had by all & look forward to 10 years of Numduc with DOCWA at Dowerin this time next year.
